The Decline In Vikings

There are quite a few reasons for the decline in Vikings, some of them are why they moved, so reasons like the weather, over population and infertile land but there is also another reason.

During Viking times, Vikings raided a lot of England, but Alfred the Great also stopped many of the raids. After a while the Vikings decided it was useless to raid the same places if they were going to get stopped every time, so they decided to settle peacefully in The Danelaw. After a while of living peacefully, some of the Vikings got bored, so they decided to do a little bit of raiding, but the English once again drove out the unpeaceful Viking and the Viking King of Jorvick. They let the peaceful ones stay as long as they agreed to live under English laws. But the Vikings that were driven still continued to raid, by then Alfred the Great had died, so Ethelred the unready tried to give the Vikings money to stop the raids, but Vikings being Vikings took the money and continued the raids. So Ethelred decided to kill the peaceful Viking family's. This stopped the raids.

In 1066 CE, King Edward the Confessor, son of Ethelred the Unready, died. He had no children so people fought for the throne, This fight was the battle of Hastings. During The Battle of Hastings the was The Battle of Stanford Bridge, and this was were basically everyone died and is considered the last Viking raid. With most people dead, there weren't many Vikings left so from then on Vikings just faded away till there were none left.

These are two paintings of what the Battle of Hastings would have looked like
